Blues for Baghdad Update On Monday, November

distributed the remaining proceeds from the Blues for Baghdad benefit held
April 18, 2004. On that day seven local Blues bands and over 300 of their
friends gathered at Blues On Grand in downtown Des Moines to honor and
celebrate the men and women of Iowa serving our country in Operation Iraqi
Freedom. The recording made on that day was our way of saying thank you for
their dedication and sacrifice. They may be far from home but they are not
forgotten. The CDs were distributed to the
2009 The Keeping the Blues Alive Awards
The Keeping the Blues Alive Awards recognize the significant contributions
to Blues music made by the people behind the scenes. Each is selected on the
basis of merit by a select panel of Blues professionals. KBA Chairman Art
Tipaldi notes with respect to this year’s recipients, “As is often the case,
this year the committee recognized some individuals that have long-deserved
to be honored as well as identifying others who have made a very impressive
mark on Blues music in a relatively short period. Once again, the honorees
cover the United States map. In addition, two Italian organizations were

Holtz on the arrival on the new grand baby!
2009 Iowa Blues Challenge Blues Bands-are
you ready for the Challenge? Applications will be ready for bands for the
next all Iowa Blues Bands Challenge in January 2009 with the deadline being
around March 6, 2009.The format this year will again depends on the number
of bands involved. But more importantly, the number of bands will determine
if there will be a 2009 Iowa Blues Challenge. Each year the number of bands
has dropped until it could be perceived that there is not enough interest
here in Des Moines or the Quad Cities for the Challenge to be held. A
determination needs to be made mid-January as to whether the Challenge will
be held this year. Please contact any board member if you and/or your band
do have an interest as soon as you can.
Many of us will be escorting the 2008 Iowa Blues Challenge winners to
Memphis at the in February, 2009. The Avey Brothers and Case of the Blues
will be representing Iowa, letting folks know we DO know the Blues in Iowa.
Join us----It is a weekend not to miss. Look for more details at
www.blues.org

Help Promote CIBS!
For our Society to continue to grow and thrive, we need others to
know who we are, what we’re about and what we’re doing.
Business owners – do you have a good spot we can hang posters
or fliers for our events? If you’re not already, consider becoming a
CIBS Corporate Sponsor. Your name will be listed on every Crier for
our members to see and you will be supporting the music you love.
Members – where are some places you frequent that you feel
are candidates for posters, fliers, table tents, etc. for upcoming
events? Try to recruit a friend to the Society. We need to grow to
flourish!
PLEASE send your ideas to Serena James at blueslivon@aol.com or
contact her at 515.282.1172.
